It all began with a Swallowtail - the Crafters Dilemma!

Greetings Happy Stampers!
Today has been a hot one here and I have been sweating it out in my craft room.

I had this Swallowtail butterfly lying around for a couple of weeks. It was left over from an idea that went "south" and I just couldn't figure out what to do with it, the butterfly not the idea.
I didn't want to throw it away - the Crafters Dilemma! After all I had gone to the trouble of gold embossing it onto Soft Sky card stock and then carefully cutting it out! lol! We've all been there, right?

Yesterday I showed you a card I had made with the lovely Hardwood Background stamp and I thought the butterfly might look good on that.
I cut the butterfly down to fit on the card front and stamped Hardwood Background onto Crumbcake card stock with Early Expresso Ink.
But it still needed something?
A doily? Or two??
Come and see how it eventually went together.....

I sponged the top doily in marina mist ink and cut the white one in half so it could be layered behind it.
The doilies had creases running down the centre and I wanted to hide that so I put those lovely diamantes running up and down in different sizes. (And you just thought I was being artistically clever didn't you! haha.) Nope.

Another big problem I had when it was done was that I stupidly used some glue on the doilies. Bad idea. As the glue often seeps through, leaving sticky residue on top of your doily.
So the cute little hand made tag cleverly tied with Island Indigo Bakers Twine is really another coverup!!! LOL!
That little greeting came from a retired SU set that I will never get rid of.  I stamped it in Marina Mist.
The butterfly is glued down on the left side and its right wing is raised with dimensionals.

So all in all, this was a very "organic" card that virtually created itself - by way of problem solving issues that kept arising. But I didn't give up and Ta Da!! I am very happy with the result.

Hope you like it too and maybe it will give you some ideas as well.
Sometimes it is better just to throw things away and start again... but then, other times a little perserverence can actually pay off!
As the saying goes "love life...live life"

Have a great day and I will catch you next time. Thanks so much for stopping by, love hearing from you. Vx

  1. You are doing an excellent job using that Hardwood stamp. Goes so well with both the flowers and Swallowtail. xx
