Country Christmas

Every year I like to do a Country Christmas style card at least once in my class. A while ago I came across a picture on Pinterest that captured my attention.
It was a scrapbook page that had used a paper quilting technique I hadn't seen before. I searched for more info and ideas using it and couldn't seem to find very much.
But I didn't let that stop me from creating a card using the quilting idea! Oh No! After a few false starts figuring out how it was done I came up with my design.

This is great for using up scraps of cardstock and designer paper. Plus do you notice what I have embellished the tree with?
Buttons! Yep. No more hoarding all the pretty buttons. Time to release them onto a card and share them around. Yay.

Here is a closer look for you. Each little square is made using a 1 1/4 inch circle and a 2cm square. Place the square in the centre of the circle and fold in the edges. Simple as that. Then arrange squares in a pleasing pattern. I opted for a Christmas Tree design.

I considered a piece of patterned paper along the burlap ribbon or even some cherry cobbler or old olive ribbon. But nothing looked right. That's when I decided to make my own patterned border. I stamped the greeting and surrounded it with some old olive snowflakes(?). I think it looks -"just right".
